SAIEH General Secretary Elected as an Honorary Secretary for The International Federation of Environmental Health

The General Secretary of the South African Institute of Environmental Health has been recently elected as an Honorary Secretary for the International Federation of Environmental Health. This honour was bestowed on him during the World Congress on Environmental Health which was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 21 to 25 August 2022.

The Federation is an organisation whose full members are national associations representing the interests of environmental health professionals throughout the World and works to disseminate knowledge concerning environmental health and promote co-operation between countries where environmental health issues are transboundary. Amongst other things, David Nemakonde is expected to be the initial point of contact and official correspondent for IFEH and take decisions which cannot await meetings of the Council and will have to ensure that the Federation continues to provide means of exchanging information and experience on environmental health, to hold World Congresses and meetings to discuss subjects relevant to environmental health science and administration, to represent the interests of environmental health to state agencies, national governments and international organisations.

As the Secretary, he will be the main person to liaise with the organisers of the next World Congress which is going to be held in Perth, Australia from 20 to 25 May 2024.

David is the current Chairperson of SAIEH, Vhembe region; SAIEH Limpopo Provincial Secretary; General Secretary for SAIEH National and Secretary for IFEH-Africa Regional Group. His dedication and contribution to the profession was noted by the IFEH that elected him as an Honorary Secretary.
